Parent meeting focuses on student achievement

Submitted on: February 8, 2018

Threadgill Primary School recently held its February’s parent meeting and administrators and guest speakers focused on the topic: Active Parenting for Greater Student Achievement. The speakers for the occasion were Shemica Pitts, GPSD instructional coach for prekindergarten through Grade 1 and Latasha Stanley-Butler, program educator for Families First for Mississippi. Ms. Pitts talked about data expectations and parent strategies for student success.

Principal Dawn West and Parent Center coordinator Elnora Collins welcomed parents, grandparents, guardians and community members.

Carl Winters, who is an active supporter of the GPSD, informed parents about the district’s newsletter which is published quarterly. April Smith, the 21 Century Extended Day coordinator and a pre-k teacher, also spoke at the meeting.

Parents and guests were served lunch after the meeting. Mrs. Collins deemed the meeting “a success.’
