GHS senior awarded scholarship from retired educators association

Greenwood High School senior Erin Lanette Ervy was the recipient of a scholarship award from the Greenwood-Leflore Retired Education Personnel Association. She along with two seniors from the county, received the awards at the association’s annual awards luncheon on Tuesday, April 5. The theme of the luncheon was “Striving for Excellence.”


Mrs. Earnestine Epps, an association member and director of the Innovative Approaches to Literacy Grant project director, presented Erin with her award. Also attending the luncheon was Erin’s mother, Wanda Ervy, Interim Superintendent Charles Brooks and GHS counselor Loria Gardner. Erin is also the daughter of the late Eric Ervy. She was born in Las Cruses, New Mexico. She is a member of the GHS band and tennis team and has earned an award from the National Honor Society. After graduating, Erin plans to attend college where she plans to major in psychology with a minor in business. Upon completing her master’s degree, she wants to open her own business as a counselor and operate a facility for family and marriage counseling.


Also receiving scholarship awards at the luncheon were Amanda Elzy’s Ashanti Brownlow and Leflore County’s Destiney Sharkey. Association President Robert Sims received the Leadership Award.
